Aunt Helen’s Favorites; Hungarian Torte Cake

This recipe is one of our family favorites (especially my Aunt Helen).

Hungarian Torte Cake (Mom’s aka Grandma Garand recipe)

12 eggs separated
12 tbsp sugar
4 tbsp bread crumbs
5 tbsp flour
1 tsp baking powder
9 tbsp walnut

Icing
½ lbs soft butter
Icing sugar
Cocoa

Beat egg yolks and sugar until the yellow is a nice lemon color. Mix in bread crumbs, flour and baking powder. Beat the egg white until they form a stiff peak. Add the egg yolk mixture to the egg whites and mix it well. Add walnuts.Put in 4 greased cake pans and bake at 350 for 25 minutes.

Beat the butter and icing sugar until good spreading consistency. I usually add a bit of hot water to the butter sugar mixture to make it easier to spread. Add cocoa and mix well.
