Aunt Helen’s Favorites; Cheese Bread

I just love my Aunt Helen, she is the queen of family recipes. She sent me this email today.

On our trip last summer to where grandpa was born we stopped in at one of his cousins house and she invited us for lunch. She had just finished making this cheese bread which was absolutely amazing. She served us this bread with a hearty bowl of soup and it was quite filling. I got her to give me the recipe here it is.

Cheese Bread

(dad’s cousin Marielle’s recipe)

2 cups flour
2 cups Cracker Barrell Cheese grated
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tblsp. sugar
¾ tsp. oregano
¾ tsp. dry mustard
½ tsp. salt
1 egg – beaten
1 cup milk
1tbsp. garlic butter – melted
6 green onions finely chopped

Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Beat egg with milk, add melted garlic butter. Incorporate the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients. Mix well. Stir in the green onions. Generously grease 2 bread pans and add the mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Once knife comes out clean, bread should be done.
