Three months ago I walked into what would soon become part of my Saturday morning routine, breakfast at the Lunch Box. Since I have only missed on Saturday; when they were closed for construction.
The breakfast menu is pretty typical, bacon/eggs, french toast, pancakes etc. but the taste is anything but. Not super fancy with all kinds of unnecessary frills just fresh ingredients, with lots of cream and butter. It is a flavor explosion with each and every bite…although on a side note; last month I decided (very silly decision) to go on a Dr. Bernstein Diet and the Lunch Box Chefs made me the most delicious white egg omelet known to man…and it had nothing but egg whites and veggies in it – NO milk, NO butter or oil, No bacon fat, NO egg yokes, nada! They basted the egg whites in veggie stock and it was amazing! So although there is tons of yummy fatty flavor in most dishes, if you are on any kind of crazy diet, the kitchen is up to the challenge.
Since I am not giving up my Saturday brunch anytime soon, I have decided to try each and every item on the menu. This week I started with the safe, Greasy Spoon Jr. The dish comes with two eggs, your choice of side (mine was bacon), homefries and toast. The first best part of this meal are the home fries, they are most defiantly fried with a touch of bacon fat and butter then baked…and my mouth is watering just thinking about them. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, salty deliciousness! The second best part are the eggs, they taste fresh off the farm. Next week I will make a point of asking two questions, is there bacon in the homefries and where do they get their eggs, just to see if I’m out to lunch or if I really know my stuff.
I should note the restaurant just changed owners but the front house staff and some of the kitchen have stayed, so I hope my Saturday experience stays the same.
As you walk in the doors and are greeted the sounds of the 50’s are playing in the background, the smell of bacon fills the air and your experience begins.
I highly recommend checking this little gem out. I will be, Saturday is only three days away.
