During the last few weeks of summer I had a craving for traditional hand tossed, oven baked pizza. Shawn and I did a Urban Spoon search and came across Pizza Libretto, the reviews were all amazing, I immediately knew I had to eat there. On their site is clearly stats they do not take reservations it’s a first come first serve kinda place. It was 8:00pm on a Friday night so we called to see what the wait would be like…over 2 hours. So we passed. Last Thursday night we were looking for a cool place to eat dinner and we remembered Pizza Libretto, so again we called to see what the wait was like, 40min. We hopped in the car and put on name on the list.
It was well worth the wait. We were seated at the front window bar over-looking Ossington Ave. A great spot to people watch as the busy murmur of the restaurant hummed behind us. Everything about this dinning experience was perfect.
Our sever was extremely knowledgeable and made great recommendations based on what we were feeling, to start we shared:
Buttermilk Calamari, Romesco (a red pepper almond sauce)
Rocco’s Duck Prosciutto (house-made)
Caprese Salad (Ontario heirloom tomatoes ), Ontario Fiore di latte, Basil, Olive Oil
Ohhhh, oh so good! The pictures below do not do the food justice. Prosciutto melted literally in our mouths and the creamy caprese salad did not disappoint. The Calamari was good, but not great, it stayed in the oil a little to long. I would order it again just to be proved wrong.
We really could of split on pizza’s, there was no need to each have our own but the leftovers did not go to waste. Yes, that’s right we both had one to ourselves!!
Nduja Sausage, Tomato, Garlic, Oregano, Basil, Mozzarella, Stracciatella
Ontario Prosciutto & Arugula, Garlic, Tomato, Oregano, Shaved Grana Padano
It really was a feast finished off with Libretto Tiramisu! All this was enjoyed with a few glasses of Rosso Toscana “Il Bosco” 2009 IGT, Azienda Casale, Toscana.
Everything from the music to cutlery has been well though out here, you can tell you are eating in a place where the chefs love to cook and the servers love the food they serve. A great group of people, amazing food, amazing place. I HIGHLY recommend waiting the 40min or 2 hours to eat here. I will be back! Although next time, I will split on the pizza.
