On Friday I met a friend for lunch. Over lunch we chatted about work, weight watchers and people we know having babies. Our conversations typically start and end with food. She quit smoking in December (great work Laura!) and has kept it up since. After quitting smoking she started to feel better (surprise, surprise everyone) and naturally started to eat better. I’m not sure how it started but she is almost 30 days into the Paleo diet and says she feels great! She looks great so something must be going right.
Now I know that eating whole foods is extremely healthy and as I go into week two of my nutrition coarse I am learning just how true this actually is. So my curiosity was peeked and today while doing my homework I have also been researching this Primal Paleo thing…and it’s very interesting. I watched a youtube video about a Dr. who has not cured but seriously improved her living with MS through diet. I bought Primal Body, Primal Mind by Nora T. Gedgaudas and Salt, Sugar and Fat by Michael Moss…my head is exploding with all this great information. So much so that I am going to put it to the test for myself. For the next 30 days I am going to change my lifestyle to match that of my ancestors. I went to ROWE farms today and bought food for the next few days, and realized this isn’t going to be a cheap test…but as long as I’m not smoking the increase in groceries will be balanced by the lack of cancer sticks.
How am I going to track this…well I think this little formula should work:
- Weight
- What did I eat today…and what does that look like in calories (This is important to me because I have always lived by cals in vs. cals out…not the value of the cals.)
- What kind of exercises did I do if any
- How long did I sleep for
- Scale of 1-10 how do I feel
At the end of the 30 days I do expect to lose a bit of weight (Note this is not the end goal, I love my extra big BUM), have more energy, normal BP, not protein from my kidneys and clear skin.
Wish me luck!
