These are a few of my favourite things, butter, bacon and beef…all of which I ate this week without a second thought! I didn’t think about the fat I was consuming, if I was eating too much red meat or if bacon with everything is a bad idea, I just ate! I loved every minute of it. Not once this week did I feel like I was missing out on anything, and surprisingly I didn’t crave sugar. I don’t want to mislead anyone, the beef, bacon and butter where in addition to a ton of local, organic vegetables, fruit and nuts. I’m not doing the “Atkins” diet, I am simply trying Paleo for 30 days.
Initially I thought that I would have time to blog everyday about the food but life keeps getting in the way, so I will when I can otherwise I will provide a one week summary like this one. Since this is an experiment I am using myfitnesspal to track my calories, fat, iron, protein, fibre, carbs and sodium. While doing this I am not measuring my food, just simply eating it. However, I am very interested in seeing what my average calories, fat, sodium etc. are while I take this journey. I should also mention that I had a full blood workout done before I started this so I can also track the beginning and ending effects on my HDL, LDL and sodium levels since this is how I will measure medical evidence for better or worse. Going into this all my levels are great with the exception of my iron which is super low and I am not taking daily supplements to get back up.
Onto this week:
Daily calorie intake 1500-1700
Daily carb intake 66-80 grams
Daily fat intake 65-90 grams
Daily protein intake avg. 80 grams
Daily sodium intake avg. 550 mg
Daily fibre intake 19 grams
For a women my age with moderate to low activity calorie intake should be between 1480 – 1990, carbs should be 200 – 300 grams, fat 40-70 grams, protein 46 grams, sodium 1500 mg and fibre 28 grams. Please keep in mind none of this is scientific, I am pulling all this info from the web, if you click on the amounts it will bring you to the page. This is just baselines that I am following. As you can see I am way under on some and over on others.
How did I feel this week? Really really tired, I had the energy of a nit! Now I’m attributing this to VERY LOW iron which should be back up in a few days and I’ll have a better idea of what is happening with energy and eating.
As the week went by and I chatted with people about this eating plan the first assumption is that it’s for weight loss, as I initially said, no it is not, however if I benefit and drop a few pounds I will not complain. To those who are interested in such things, I lost 3 pounds this week. BUT most important to me, I wasn’t hungry, didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything!
